First off, are you planning a trip to Mars? Let Google provide maps! (Happy birthday Percival Lowell).
I signed on this morning to ecstatic messages from an almost housemate of ours (M-) about the MRO launch and placement in orbit around Mars. Exciting stuff!
It hailed Friday evening. Enough so that it was like snow, but a little hard on my sandalled feet. relsqui, stonesundial, and I were hanging out at Tiny's when all this went down. We'd meant to see the Back to the Future musical at UCSC, but no such luck -- they "sold" out (it was a free show). relsqui and stonesundial had fun playing in the "snow" and I had fun watching people spin out in the parking lot. I only got ~5 blocks or so of driving on the ice in, but it was fun, all the same. After a while, we went back home and watched 80s music videos. I don't remember why.
Saturday at around midnight until Sunday at ~9am, we were watching the Lord of the Rings movies back-to-back-to-back at the Del Mar. I dropped off at one point in The Two Towers. Not for too long though. They had a hobbit-off and their usual raffle. A guy came as an Ent.
One thing I noticed that I hadn't before -- a lot of the shots around Mount Doom after the destruction of the ring were really painfully obviously green screened. Good stuff though.
Sunday, was thus spent sleeping. Then we went to see the Back to the Future musical and got in. Fairly entertaining as shoestring budget student productions go. It reminded me of just how awesome that movie was. We went to Tiny's afterwards and hung out with people for a bit.
These weekends have an annoying way of evaporating.
Ultimate 1.0 is nearly done. I need to write a few more things and get it booting with grub again. It isn't much, but it's a start and that's a lot.
I'm hastily attempting a deb install by plip through my workstation using NAT to bypass most of the nasty IT things. So far, so good, though I keep having to kill wgets and restarting them because they time out for no apparent reason. Hopefully, I'll be able to wheedle an internet connection out of guide at SMAUG tonight.
That's about it. I think Firefly + Serenity is at the Del Mar this weekend.
Firefly + Serenity = April 1st.
Do you know if Back to the Future: The Musical is going to have any more shows? David had mentioned some interest in that.
As far as I know, that boat has been thoroughly missed.
