relsqui has been reading fairy tales of late. In particular, one about a castle suspended by silver chains from trees. Inside the castle is a couch which is suspended by gold chains. As a result of the rocking motion, anyone who sits on the couch will be lulled to sleep and the only way to wake them is with the sound of 1,000 violins.

I went to sleep at my usual hour for work and b's webserver crashed at some point afterwards (finally tracked down to a backup script running amok). She's been working on Drun, so she was really anxious for me to wake up and figure out what happened. Her friend Psudo suggested a series of ways to wake me up. In particular, he suggested murdering someone (in his words: "violence is always the answer"). After going through a series of various schemes which probably would have failed to wake me up, she started musing about the sound of 1,000 violins.

At length, my alarm went off, so I awakened and she told me about the fairy tale and the thousand violins. I looked at her and unintentionally echoed the thoughts of Psudo with:

"Figures. Violins is always the answer."

I always have mixed feelings about violins. I played one in a school orchestra when in grade school, and hated it - not for the music, which I loved, but for how hard it was to hold the strings down with my weak fingers, especially my little finger on the skinny E string, thinner than a cheese slicer wire. So I gave it up, took up the recorder later; I gave the violin away a couple mo. ago to a friend's music school in S.F. I was reminded of all of this talking to a friend of James', who is a musician, and knows of a long-ago bike-racing friend of mine who is 1st oboe for the Cleveland Symphony. Ah, life's spells ...
