Here's roughly the events of her time here:
Monday: relsqui & I raced South from Berkeley (later than I liked) to San Jose Airport. Like a moron, I didn't recall what airline she was on. I was depending on being able to see her at the curb easily. This turned out to be an excellent assumption, though traffic nearly prevented me from getting from the travelling lanes to the curb. She presented us with our very own Florida beach-in-a-bottle which sits quite nicely in our living room.
Immediately afterwards, we went to Jalapeno's. It's this little Mexican place right next to a liquor store at the edge of downtown Santa Cruz. lishd has been craving their carnitas burritos (I should probably put those in Spanish grammar if I'm going to use two Spanish words in a row ; ) ) for some time. We brought her back to our place and spent the remainder of the evening doing nothing of particular consequence while lishd started dreads for a friend of hers.
Tuesday: lishd comes to the conclusion that we must play King's Quest. We played through I-III, winning II and III with perfect scores. We looked through a points list on KQ1, but we've no idea what we missed. I suspect now that the bow at the beginning must be done _before_ talking to King Edward, not after, and cost us the 3 points. lishd also had a brief introduction to House Tilde's burgeration. More people were supposed to come for dreading, but none showed. No big loss.
Wednesday: We start on KQIV and then rush out to San Jose for a tattoo appointment. lishd's brother comes along. We end up getting stuck at a gas station...about 3 feet from a tow truck. Turns out the starter died due to a leaking oil filter. Of course, we didn't realize that until the car started smoking while the tow truck guy tried to jump it. While the starter was replaced, lishd got another tattoo. It looked really neat and I was really interested in the process, but I had to be with the car instead. Once the starter was replaced, we picked lishd and her brother up again and zipped back to Santa Cruz for:
1) Jalapenos. To get another burrito for lishd. In roughly 0.00812785312598657 years spent in Santa Cruz this year, she has consumed two burritos, thus attaining a theoretical average of 246.0674385964 burritos per year. Expanding that out to her entire lifetime, she would have consumed 6593.8480623757121
burritos. A better estimate (supposing she spent exactly 4 years here previously and has otherwise lived out of the area) would be 986.25259259222640 burritos. THAT MEANS YOU'RE COMING UP ON 1000, lishd!!! You need to come back and get those last ~13.75! ; )
2) The mall. To get hair dye for relsqui, myself, and lishd's brother. I now have streaks which go from "nuclear red" (the same color as lishd's dreads, incidentally) to a dark blue. The blue is _almost_ unnoticable, unfortunately. We dyed our hair after dinner.
3) Pink Godzilla. We got there _just_ as they closed. As luck would have it, one of the chefs decided it was OK for us to get in, though we could only order once. I can't even begin to count all the different things we had. We seemed to have gotten the right amount though. All the plates were cleared and we were all pretty stuffed.
4) The beach. This was after having gone to the 3 previous places, returned home, and set out hair to dye. lishd's brother left by then and we hurried out to get some Pacific Ocean water and sand for a California beach-in-a-bottle.
On the trip, her brother said that I was (as I heard it) a "gorilla" driver. This was further elucidated as "Not like an ape, but like wearing a beret", thus he meant "guerilla", not "gorilla". This was after a particularly decisive move across two lanes to avoid getting shunted off onto Soquel Drive instead of Water. It was apparently because when I drive, I have a definite plan about where I'm going and how I get there. I had thought there was a negative connotation (suggesting that I was cutting people off, which I certainly wasn't), but I was assured otherwise.
When we got back, we "finished" KQIV, but actually got bitten by a bug. If you open Lolotte's door, then go get your possessions, then come back, the game draws and states that the door is still open. However, you cannot pass through it. Nor can you fire your arrow through it. That _really_ sucked. I considered staying up this morning and finishing it, but could not get swallowed by the whale again. =/
Thursday: Woke up early. Drove lishd to the airport. Our housemate, D wasn't awake to say bye. relsqui had work, so she had to leave early, but woke lishd up to show off the newly dyed hair. Gave her a good, long hug at the airport and told her she needs to come back for longer next year. During the hug, she mentioned that I should "give some of this to relsqui later. And I mean that in all possible ways."
It was a thoroughly awesome trip. I look forward to next time. 8)
