It's very rare in life that we can do something once without having to repeat the effort later on.

In some ways, it's a signifier of how worthwhile things are that you have to repeat the effort. One must continue cleaning dishes. One must continue cooking. One must continue changing the oil in their car.

If I had to pick out the problems I have with life as we know it, it'd be that point right there.

I think it was Eric S. Raymond who wrote something like "No human being should ever have to solve the same problem twice." In an ideal world, perhaps that might be generalized to "No person should ever have to perform the same task twice."

...If that's true, I'm not certain that ours is an ideal world.

I think solving a problem multiple times can be worth it. The prevalence of second system effect shows that we can usually think up a better way to do it the next time around.

Actually putting in the effort -- especially when there's no intellectual challenge? Not for me thanks.

Of course, if it weren't for the drudgery of the patent office, we might still be trying to figure out the correlation between energy and matter.
