It is a travesty that:
1) Avatar -- a retread of "Dances with Wolves" -- is being considered for Best Picture.
2) A Harry Potter film is considered possibly the best cinematography this year.
It is mildly better that a Pixar film is being considered for Best Picture, but this isn't the year for it.
I agree with you on all points.

that said, i fucking loved avatar & am pleased it's getting recognition. the storyline was lame, sure - but it was completely gorgeous, drew me in, & i'd like other Big Movie Guys to be encouraged to spend as much in the future to create new worlds with movies & fancy glasses.
also i'm getting a toruk tattoo :D :D :D
"Pocahontas" is a close one too, but I think "Dances with Wolves" is a better fit. It's been compared to "Dune" too, but that doesn't fit anywhere near as well.
I agree in the sense that it was good sci-fi and CGI. Oh, and Sigourney Weaver.
