One thing I forgot to mention -- I'm watching the Boston-Carolina game right now.

It's been an interesting game. I think Boston's been better, but it's hard to argue with the score. There was a really close shot that looked like it should've been a Carolina goal to me. Ward's been great in goal. It's funny how much of being a good goalie is just a matter of being in the right place, rather than having a fast glove or stick.

Another thing: I always liked Ray Bourque -- he was one of the first defensemen that I ever saw play who had a really solid shot. I always knew him with number 77, but it turns out that he used to have number 7. The reason for the change? Phil Esposito had number 7 and Boston wanted to retire the number. Esposito figured that his number would be retired when Bourque was done. Boston held a Phil Esposito night and on that night, Bourque went up for his ceremonial duties as captain. While he was there, he took off his jersey and revealed his new one underneath it with the number 77.

Terribly classy thing to do.

I wonder if Boston retired 77 or if Colorado did -- he was traded at the end of his career so that he'd have a shot at winning the cup (which he did). I'd expect (and hope) Boston would have.

EDIT: Turns out that both Colorado and Boston retired his number.
